Ethnography-for-Design

I recently completed my Ph.D. in Cognitive Science at UC San Diego working with Profs. Jim Hollan and Ed Hutchins of the Distributed Cognition and Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory.

I use ethnographic methods to study the social and cognitive impacts of technology, and apply these findings to design. I am also interested in embodied cognition and how our bodily experience of the world affects the way we think and interact with each other.

My dissertation was on the role of the body in professional education, and how technology changes the way students are trained. Currently, I'm doing research on creating digital tools for ethnographers.
