I am a graduate student in Cognitive Science at the University of California, San Diego. I work with the Distributed Cognition and Human-Computer Interaction Lab at UCSD. My research is advised by Jim Hollan and focuses on human-computer interaction. More specifically, I am interested the cognitive, social, and pedagogical affordances of multimodal, multitouch tabletop displays. Recently I designed and evaluated Shared Speech Interface, a multimodal tabletop system that facilitates communication between a deaf patient and a hearing doctor. Currently, I am exploring how multimodal tabletop displays could be used to support learning scenarios, enhance memory in cognitively demanding tasks, and augment ongoing co-located cooperative activity.
Before returning to graduate school in 2007, I worked in industry for a couple years. I worked at Microsoft as a researcher on their new multitouch tabletop system, Microsoft Surface. Then I conducted research at LeapFrog on the FLY Fusion Pentop Computer, a computationally enhanced digital pen. I received my BS in Computer Science from Georgia Tech and my MA in Education from Stanford University.

Shared Speech Interface
Shared Speech Interface (SSI) is an multimodal application for a tabletop display that facilitates communication between deaf and hearing individuals.
Small Group Study
We compare the affordances of presenting educational material on a tabletop display with presenting the same material using traditional paper handouts.
