George Furnas
University of Michigan

Computation with Pictures

George is visiting for a few days from the University of Michigan and will present an informal overview of his work on "computation with pictures" -- actually trying to solve interesting spatial problems using 2D representations themselves, instead of algebraic descriptions of them. He will touch on topics relevant to spatial cognition, theories of spatial deduction, and "shape-enriched" HCI. He will also show colorful, animated examples of his Pixel Rewrite System in action
