Kim Vicente's book The Human Factor provides a critical examination of modern technological systems. It gives us a number of conceptual tools that help us think productively about why our technical systems are the way they are and why they have the consequences they do. Vicente's analysis suggests that the best ways to improve technology may not be what you thought they would be.
