A grant from the Santa Fe Institute program on Robustness in Social and Biological systems permitted me to digitize my video records of ship navigation activity and to conduct a new analysis of those materials focusing on how this system of distributed cognition adapts to perturbations in its environment.

The key hypothesis here was that the robustness of the adaptive processes in the navigation team was in part due to the way that navigators use their bodies in the activities of navigation.
